PHI-NADO REPRESENTS THE PHILIPPINES TO THE ASEAN 2025 SPORTS INTEGRITY & ANTI-DOPING SYMPOSIUM IN LABUAN, MALAYSIA

Delegates from the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) come together for a Symposium on Sports Integrity & Anti-Doping in Labuan, Malaysia from October 28 to 31, 2025. Most of the delegates are from the National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs) of their respective countries.

The Philippine delegation is composed of the Philippine National Anti-Doping Organization (PHI-NADO) officers, namely, Alethea Laquindanum (Doping Control Officer), Marian De Castro (International Relations Officer), and Royce Kamille Salen (Public Relations and Stakeholder Engagement Consultant). They arrived on October 28 at the Labuan Airport, where a festive welcome awaited the participants.

On October 29, Dr. Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, the Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, opened the program with a warm welcome and a powerful message. Speakers from multiple organizations such as Sport Integrity Australia (SIA), Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and Sport Singapore shared best practices on their respective approaches to promoting sports integrity in their countries.

Dr. Saravana Perumal from the Asia/Ocenia Office of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) highlighted the key changes in the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards as part of the preparations towards the implementation of the updated Code.

Day 1 sessions ended with an interactive Clean Sport Challenge, a series of games that challenged the participants physically, mentally, and emotionally, facilitated by officers from the Results Management Committee of the Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (ADAMAS).

At night, the delegates shared a sumptuous dinner, in the presence of the Guest of Honor, Dr. Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, at a seafood restaurant while enjoying performances from talented local singers and dancers.

Day 2 of the symposium started with a panel discussion among the leading NADOs — Korean Anti-Doping Agency (KADA), Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA), and Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) —  who shared their “Approaches to Sports Integrity Challenges and Implementation of the International Standard for Education (ISE)”, an insightful discussion that also served as an inspiration to the younger NADOs in Southeast Asia.

The Day 2 sessions closed with an interesting panel discussion about, “An Overview of Match-Fixing and Corruption in Sports: Prevention Strategies, Key Challenges, and Opportunities for Future Collaboration”, with representatives from the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

On the second half of the day, the delegates participated in institutional visits to key local destinations such as the Labuan Museum, Labuan Warisan, Taman Damai and Surrender Point, and The Chimney. The day ended with a fun fellowship and beautiful view of the sunset at Kampung Batu Manikar.

PHI-NADO thanks and congratulates the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia and the ADAMAS for a successful hosting of the 2025 ASEAN Sports Integrity & Anti-Doping Symposium.
